Disease: Schistosomiasis, also known as snail fever
Symptoms: Penetration phase: petechial-like dermatitis (Pruritus, erythema, maculopapular rash). Acute phase (Katayama fever): chills, headache, cough, urticaria. Especially with Schistosoma mansoni: anaphylactic shock (Katayama syndrome). Chronic phase: chronic granulomatous inflammation, liver fibrosis, portal hypertension, obstructions in the urogenital area and the portal and pulmonary circulation.
