
Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay intended for the qualitative detection of IgG antibodies against Leishmania infantum in human serum or plasma (citrate, heparin).
Disease: Leishmania infantum: Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) Leishmania major: Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) Leishmania brasiliensis: mucocutaneous leishmaniasis (MCL) Leishmania mexicana: diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis (DCL)
Symptoms: Irregular bouts of fever, substantial weight loss, swelling of spleen and liver and anaemia. Self-limiting skin lesions. Skin ulcers, which can spread and cause hideous tissue destructions. Disseminated and chronic lesions which resemble those of lepromatous leprosy.
Mechanism of Infection: Transmission (along with the saliva) by the bite of infected female sandflies of the genus Phlebotomus in the Old World and Lutzomya in the New World.
