Disease: Cytomegalovirus (CMV)

Symptoms: In general asymptomatic. Complications in infants resulting from congenital CMV infection: hearing, mental or coordination problems

Mechanism of Infection: Transmission from person to person (intimate contact, saliva, urine, or other body fluids); Congenital infection; can also be transmitted via breast milk, transplanted organs, and rarely from blood transfusions
